Wonderful World of Hypnobirthing Liverpool

Jeanne and Daniel's Story In 2019, when I was pregnant of my 1st baby, we decided to try the hypnobirthing experience following some colleagues advice. That is how we met Maureen for the first time. Maureen prepared us for what was upcoming, and we felt ready to welcome our new baby to the world by doing a home-birthing. However, due to series of event, we did not manage to apply our lessons properly. In fact, the home-birthing team was short on staff, so we had to rush to the hospital. We were still OK at this stage, because it was part of what we were prepared for. We just did not expect the hospital staff to be so careless toward our birth plan. They were too focused on their measuring devices, so we felt inside a baby factory instead of an empathetic environment. Luckily, we managed to welcome our first baby Mia to the world, after going through an epidural. In 2021 I was pregnant of my 2nd baby. My partner and I decided to re-contact Maureen to have a reminder about our previous hypnobirthing sessions, but also to make sure our first birthing experience does not repeat. Our aim was to have a calm home birth, by using what we learnt during our hypnobirthing sessions, our reading and our prenatal courses. These lessons lead us to some choices regarding our way of living. For instance eating healthier, keep a positive mindset, or walking everyday to make gravity make its effect. These activities worked a lot on our level of Oxycontin, whilst enjoying our last time alone with our 20 months first daughter. At 39 weeks, the midwife started to offer me a sweep for the next week. However, we were already prepared to answer this kind of suggestion, and told them we can wait up to 42 weeks (French way) before thinking about induction. The midwife also informed me there were a lot of home birth planned at the same time as my due date, so they could not guarantee the team would be available. This meant that we would need to go to the hospital again, which was not an option for us after our first experience there. So we personally decided that we will let the home-birthing team know about the labour at a last minute to allow them no option than to come to our place to give birth to our baby. The 29th of August, when I was 39 weeks and 6 days, I lost my mucus plug at 8 am. I started to feel excited and a little anxious because I knew the birth will happen soon. I remained calm and went back to sleep because I felt a little tired. This little rest helped me to gain some strength because at 10 am I was awaken by some surges. This was followed by some walk back and forth to the ladies room. But we knew this was normal as this is one way for the body to prepare itself. I decided to inform my partner about the situation and asked him to organise the house and inflate the pool because the baby was due soon. I always tried to keep my mind busy, and then listened to my positive statement, walked between the surges and did my up breathing. We felt calm and in our bubble. The cry of our first daughter was the only challenge we faced, but this remained manageable. It was 1:30 pm when I told my partner to fill the pool and call the midwife as the surges became intense. The midwifes arrived at 2 pm. The surges were even more intense. They suggested to lower the pain by using the gasinet, which I thought was a good idea. However, I realised my breathing exercise made me feel better and more comfortable than the gasinet. So I decided to do my out breathing only. Then, everything went faster as my water broke at 2:30. I entered in the birthing pool that my partner managed to fill just with enough water. I always close my eyes and focus on my breathing and visualising. Every time I opened my eyes, I saw my partner and my little girl supporting me. After 3 pushes, my new baby girl was with us and we had our golden hour. It was amazing, and the fact I was home I was calm and I felt free to decide what I wanted helped a lot. After my first experience, I didn't expected this birth to be that amazing. This is the way I would like every other woman to feel when giving birth. It is far from being easy, but it is achievable as long as you are well prepared and supported.
